Casa Celis

This colonial building was built in 1765 by Cavalry Colonel Don Ramon de Ibarrolaburu y Aņorga, when he went to Spain his house was confiscated. The house is named that way in honor to the Colonel Pedro Celis, he acquired it in 1839. During the times of war it served as headquarters to the hospital.
In this house, the Colonel gave the most lavish dances of the time, which were commented in the whole city. The house was completely restored, and today is a worthy replica of the homes of wealthy families in the eighteenth century; it provides to the visitors a good idea about how was the lifestyle in Venezuelans that time.
At the present time, operates in this place the Museum of Art and History of the Lisandro Alvarado foundation. In this museum you can enjoy a beautiful colonial painting collection which contains works by the painter and sculptor Andres Valencia Perez Mujica and others artists.
