Fort�n de la Magdalena
Fortín de la Magdalena was built in 1799, is located in the hill called "El Morro". It was constructed in order to avoid the attacks of French, Dutchmen and Englishes pirates to tradespeople who used to take the route that link Barcelona with Cumaná.
In 1817, during the Venezuelan Independence War, Simón Bolívar occupied the small fort while a short time in order to fight against the realist army and then, in 1819, it was completely dominated by the patriots after it was taken by the General Rafael Urdaneta.
