This beautiful building was designed and constructed by the architect Mújica Millán. The San Buenaventura seminary was founded in 1785 by for the friar Juan Ramos de Lora, the first bishop in Mérida, it turned into "Real Universidad de San Buenaventura de Mérida de Los Caballeros" by the year 1810.
It lodges the archeological museum Gonzalo Rincón Gutiérrez and in its facilities, frequently takes place different university and cultural activities. It is located near to the Bolívar square, in the avenue 3 between the 23 and 24 streets.
