Cathedral of Maracay


The cathedral of Maracay was built on lands that belonged to the Mijarez marquis; subsequently he decided to donate them. It is located in front of the Girardot Plaza and was built between the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, in spite of having experimented several modifications and restorations it still preserves a colonial style.
This church has been the witness of the history and progress of the city. At present time, consists of three naves, the bell tower and 5 lateral chapels, in the early eighteenth century it had only the central nave. It was declared as a historical monument of Venezuela a few years ago.
