Porlamar
It is located to 9 Km of La Asunción and to 7 Km of Pampatar, nowadays; it is the biggest and most important urban center of Margarita Island. The port gained importance due to the international navigation as well as the cabotage; at the time it converted a free port, it lost its fishing village character and became the commercial life center in Margarita Island.
There are plenty of shopping malls, restaurants, boutiques, casinoes, clubs, hotels, residential urbanizations, seaside resorts, etc.
The tourist affluence from all around the world is bigger every day thanks to the existence of big agencies that have put to its service the kindnesses offered by the airport international, placed to a few kilometers of Porlamar. This fast growth made necessary the transfer of the airport to the South of the island, today called The International airport of the Caribbean Santiago Mariño.
