La Restinga National Park

It has an extension of 18.862 HAs and it was incorporated by the "Convención de Humedales Ramsar" to its wetlands list of international importance in 1996. It has four biological areas clearly differenced: The lacunar system, the mangroves, the bar itself or "Restinga" and the xerophilous communities around the park. The lacunar system is formed by several lagoons, pipes, canals and mangroves zones that are interconnected one each other, its biological wealth is lodged in their first stages by the mangroves that act like a kind of warren or roadblock.
Those Mangroves are without doubts the most important vegetable manifestation of the park and they are essential for the development and the biological diversity.
The biological variety is abundant in its distinct areas, for example the birds and the reptiles predominate in the terrestrial sector for example paraulatas, cardinales, iguanas and small lizards live there. It has about 90 kinds of fish species such as the sea bass, the "lisa", the "lebranche", the "mojarra", also live there mollusks such as oysters. All the park home houses 85 species of resident birds and 20 species of migratory birds as well as water birds.
