La Asunci�n
It is the capital of New Esparta state, it was founded by the XVI century and it was consolidated because of the relationships established between it neighbors (Cumaná and Cubagua inhabitants) and the natives.
It is located in Oriental part of Margarita Island, and has population that exceeds the 23,000 inhabitants.
Since it was created, La Asunción has been a very important point of the island, for being the point of repealing the attacks of corsairs and pirates and for being an authentic bastion during the Independence of Venezuela against Spain. The fact of being the state capital confers to La Asunción an important character making the city the headquarters of important national and regional administrative activities.
