Valencia Catedral

Valencia Catedral
It is located in front of Plaza Bolivar in the city centre of Valencia. It is a building dedicated to venerate the Virgen del Socorro, the saint patron of Valencia, the construction of this building began in 1580. It has suffered several reconstructions and renovations throughout its history resulting in a colonial style merged with several other styles.

The cathedral has many stories and many artistic and religious treasures such as the works created by the Valencian painter Antonio Herrera Toro. In the year 1818, its facade was completely changed, the south tower was added, and under it was built a crypt which houses the bodies of General Manuel Cedeņo and Colonel Ambrosio Plaza.

This important work of the architecture preserves several works of art, such as the colonial image of the Virgen del Socorro, and two master pieces of the artist Antonio Herrera Toro. Its imposing altar still preserves the style of the time it was constructed.
