Merida Cathedral

Merida Catedral
It is one of the most beautiful historical buildings; it is located in front of the Bolivar square, in the 4 avenue and between the 22 and 23 streets. It was raised over the land that occupied the antique temple of San Jose, principal church in Merida and it was constructed between the years 1803 and 1960 following the design of the cathedral of Toledo in Spain.

It was appointed by the pope Juan Pablo II as the "Basílica Menor de la Immaculada Conception". Inside the building protects the image of the Manzana's virgin that was carved in stone in the south of Germany during the XIV century, as well as the remains of San Clemente Mártir. To the right site of the cathedral is located the archiepiscopal palace.
