Plaza Girardot

Plaza Girardot
It is situated in the city center, on General Páez avenue or prolongation of Las Delicias avenue, near to this plaza are located the Cathedral of Maracay, the Anthropological Museum, and the Bicentennial Plaza.

It was built on land donated by the Count of San Javier; a few years ago it was called "Antigua Plaza El Águila"(antique eagle plaza". This place has been witness of the cultural and political development of this region and all Venezuela.

It was designed by the famous architect Fruto Vivas, and was built during the government of the president Luis Herrera Campins approximately at the end of 70s years. This place has won the National Award for Architecture.

This plaza is part of the colonial center of Maracay. Is adorned with the statue of Atanasio Girardot, several water fountains, and the sculpture of an eagle made of bronze located in the center of this place, which honors the American people who were executed at Puerto Cabello for helping the General Francisco de Miranda.
